How to Clean a Saeco Xelsis Brew Group

guide

guide

Regular cleaning of your Saeco Xelsis brew group helps remove coffee residue, maintain smooth operation and support consistent coffee extraction. Follow these steps to clean the removable brew group, then use the appropriate automatic cleaning programme for your Xelsis model.

01

SWITCH OFF YOUR MACHINE

Switch off your Saeco Xelsis before removing the brew group. On SM75 and SM76 series machines, use the main switch at the back of the machine.

02

REMOVE THE BREW GROUP

Open the service door and remove the coffee residues drawer. Press the PUSH button on the brew group and pull the group out using its handle.

03

RINSE THE BREW GROUP

Rinse the brew group thoroughly under running water. Pay particular attention to the upper filter, where coffee residue can accumulate.

Do not use washing-up liquid or place the brew group in a dishwasher.

04

ALLOW THE BREW GROUP TO DRY

Leave the brew group to air dry. Do not dry it with a cloth, as fibres may become trapped inside the mechanism.

05

REFIT THE BREW GROUP

Before refitting, check that the arrow on the yellow cylinder aligns with the black arrow and N marking. If necessary, lower the lever until it touches the base of the brew group.

Check that the yellow locking hook is fully raised. Slide the brew group along its guide rails until it clicks into position. Do not press PUSH while inserting.

Refit the coffee residues drawer and close the service door.

06

RUN THE AUTOMATIC CLEANING PROGRAMME

In addition to weekly rinsing, clean the brewing system monthly using the machine's coffee oil cleaning programme and the specified coffee oil remover tablet.

Xelsis SM75 / SM76 Series

Select Clean on the display, choose Brew Group Clean and follow the on-screen instructions.

Xelsis Deluxe / Suprema

Select Status, then Performance, followed by Coffee Oil Removal. Follow the instructions displayed by the machine.

The automatic programme complements regular rinsing and helps remove coffee oils from the brewing system.

FAQ's

FAQ's

  • How often should I clean my Saeco Xelsis brew group?

Remove and rinse the brew group under running water once a week. The Saeco Xelsis also has a monthly coffee oil cleaning programme that helps remove accumulated coffee oils from the internal brewing system.

  • Why won't my Saeco Xelsis brew group fit back into the machine?

Check that the brew group is correctly positioned before reinserting it. The arrow on the yellow cylinder should align with the black arrow and N marking, and the yellow locking hook should be fully raised. Slide the brew group along its guides until it clicks into position without pressing the PUSH button.

  • Does my Saeco Xelsis brew group need lubricating?

Yes. The moving components require periodic lubrication using suitable brew group grease. Apply a thin layer around the shaft at the bottom of the brew group and along both side rails. The SM7680-series manual specifies every four months for 1–5 coffees daily, every two months for 6–10, and monthly for more than 10 coffees daily.

Engineer's Tip

A clean brew group is only part of maintaining smooth operation. Check that the mechanism moves freely and that the guide rails are correctly lubricated. Coffee residue and insufficient lubrication can increase resistance during the brewing cycle. If your Saeco Xelsis begins making unusual mechanical noises or struggles to complete brewing, inspect the brew group for accumulated residue and signs of wear before assuming an internal drive fault.
