How to Descale a Saeco Xelsis
guide
Descaling your Saeco Xelsis helps remove limescale from the internal water circuit and maintain reliable operation. Follow this guide when your machine requests descaling, or when starting the programme manually.
MODEL INFORMATION: These instructions apply to the Saeco Xelsis Deluxe SM8780, SM8782 and SM8785, and Xelsis Suprema SM8885 and SM8889. Older Xelsis models may use different controls and procedures.
START THE DESCALING PROGRAMME
When your Saeco Xelsis displays a descaling notification, select the confirmation icon to begin.
To start descaling manually, open the Status menu and select Descale.
EMPTY THE CONTAINERS
Remove the drip tray, coffee grounds container and HygieSteam container.
Empty all three containers and return them to their correct positions in the machine.
PREPARE THE WATER TANK
Remove the water tank and empty any remaining water. Take out the AquaClean water filter if one is fitted.
Pour the entire bottle of Philips descaling solution into the water tank. Add fresh water until the solution reaches the CALC CLEAN marking.
Refit the water tank securely.
Important: The official instructions specify Philips descaler. Do not use vinegar or descalers containing sulphuric, hydrochloric, sulphamic or acetic acid. Other descalers are not verified by this manual.
POSITION THE COLLECTION CONTAINER
Place a large container with a minimum capacity of 1.5 litres beneath the coffee dispensing spout.
Check that the HygieSteam container is correctly assembled and attached to the machine.
Place the milk tube into its designated holder on the HygieSteam container.
RUN THE DESCALING CYCLE
Follow the instructions displayed on the machine to begin the automatic descaling procedure.
The complete programme takes approximately 30 minutes and includes a descaling cycle followed by a rinsing cycle.
Allow the machine to complete its programme. Follow each on-screen instruction when prompted.
Important: The exact screen confirmations are not individually listed in the manual. Follow the instructions shown on your machine rather than assuming the next action.
COMPLETE THE RINSING CYCLE
Once the descaling stage finishes, rinse the water tank and complete the water circuit rinsing procedure as instructed on the display.
Follow all remaining on-screen instructions until the programme has finished.
Fit a new AquaClean water filter into the water tank and activate it through the machine's filter activation procedure.
To activate the filter, open Status, select AquaClean and follow the on-screen instructions.
