quick tips

  • GET YOUR GRIND SETTING RIGHT

The Sage Barista Pro features an integrated conical burr grinder with adjustable grind settings. If espresso flows too quickly and tastes weak, try a finer grind. If extraction is slow or only drips through, select a coarser setting. Make small adjustments and test each shot.

  • CHECK YOUR COFFEE DOSE

For a double espresso, start with approximately 18g of freshly ground coffee in the 54mm filter basket. Distribute the grounds evenly and tamp firmly. Too much coffee can restrict water flow, while too little can produce weak, under-extracted espresso.

  • KEEP THE GROUP HEAD CLEAN

Coffee oils and fine grounds gradually collect around the group head and shower screen. Run a short water flush after brewing, wipe away visible residue and complete the machine's cleaning cycle when prompted. Regular cleaning helps maintain consistent extraction and prevents restrictions.

  • CLEAN THE STEAM WAND AFTER EVERY USE

The Barista Pro uses a manual steam wand for milk texturing. Wipe the wand immediately after steaming and briefly purge it to clear milk residue. If steam pressure becomes weak, check the steam tip for dried milk and clean it using the supplied cleaning tool.

  • MAINTAIN YOUR WATER FILTER

The Barista Pro uses a replaceable water filter inside its removable water tank. Replace the filter according to the machine's maintenance guidance and your water conditions. A correctly fitted filter helps reduce scale formation and protects the internal water circuit.

  • DON'T IGNORE DESCALING ALERTS

Mineral deposits can gradually restrict water flow and affect heating performance. When the Barista Pro displays a descaling reminder, follow its dedicated descaling procedure. Descaling and coffee cleaning are separate maintenance operations, and both are important.

FAQ's

  • Why is my Sage Barista Pro espresso pouring too quickly?

Fast extraction usually indicates coffee grounds that are too coarse, an insufficient dose or uneven preparation. Adjust the grinder slightly finer, check the amount of coffee in the filter basket and ensure the grounds are evenly distributed before tamping.

  • Why is my Sage Barista Pro not dispensing water?

Check that the water tank is filled and fully seated. Remove the portafilter and test water delivery through the group head, then check the hot water outlet. If the pump operates but neither outlet delivers water, the machine may have an airlock, internal restriction or pump-related fault.

  • How often should I clean my Sage Barista Pro?

Wipe and purge the steam wand after every milk drink, rinse the portafilter and filter basket regularly, and clean the drip tray as required. Run the coffee cleaning cycle when prompted and descale according to the machine's maintenance alerts and water hardness.

faults

  • NOT PUMPING WATER

The pump can be heard operating, but little or no water reaches the group head or hot water outlet. Check the water tank is correctly seated and contains sufficient water. Scale restrictions, an airlock or an internal pump fault may require further investigation.

  • COFFEE NOT DISPENSING

Espresso only drips from the portafilter or fails to dispense. This is commonly caused by excessively fine coffee grounds, overdosing or a blocked filter basket. Test water flow without the portafilter to help distinguish coffee preparation problems from water delivery faults.

  • GRINDER NOT WORKING

The grinder fails to dispense coffee, produces an unusual noise or delivers inconsistent quantities. Check the bean hopper and inspect for compacted grounds around the burrs and outlet chute. Foreign objects or moisture inside the grinder can also cause problems.

  • MILK NOT FROTHING

Weak steam or poor milk texture can indicate dried milk blocking the steam wand tip. Clean and purge the wand, checking that the steam holes are clear. If steam remains weak after cleaning and descaling, further investigation may be necessary.

  • WATER LEAKING

Water collecting around the group head may indicate coffee grounds on the basket rim, an incorrectly secured portafilter or a worn group head seal. Water beneath the machine may originate from the tank, drip tray or an internal leak requiring inspection.

  • CLEANING OR DESCALING ALERT REMAINS

The LCD continues displaying a maintenance reminder after cleaning. Ensure the correct cleaning or descaling programme has been completed, including the required rinse stages. A coffee cleaning cycle does not replace the descaling procedure.
