Ninja coffee machine care guides

Minerals from your water gradually build up inside the machine as water is heated. Ninja Luxe Café machines monitor usage and water hardness and use the DESCALE indicator to tell you when a descale cycle is required.

Don't simply run descaling solution through the machine as though you were making coffee. Use the machine's dedicated descale programme and follow the sequence shown in the instructions for your model.

Engineer Tip: Set the water-hardness level correctly where your Ninja provides this option. The machine uses this information when determining when descaling is required.

Coffee oils and fine grounds accumulate around the brewing area over time. On Ninja Luxe Café machines this includes the portafilter, filter basket and group-head area.

Remove loose coffee after use and regularly clean the basket and portafilter so their holes remain clear. Wipe the group-head area carefully to prevent grounds building up around the brewing and sealing surfaces.

When the CLEAN indicator illuminates on compatible Luxe Café models, carry out the specified group-head cleaning cycle using the cleaning disc and cleaning tablet.

Engineer Tip: Don't wait for poor extraction before cleaning the brewing system. A partially restricted basket can cause slow dispensing and can easily be mistaken for a pump problem.

Milk residue should never be allowed to dry inside or around the frothing system.

On Ninja Luxe Café machines, wipe the steam wand immediately after preparing milk and follow the machine's purge/cleaning procedure. Regularly inspect the wand outlet for dried milk deposits if frothing performance starts to deteriorate.

If the machine still makes hot coffee normally but milk isn't heating or frothing correctly, clean the milk system thoroughly before suspecting a heating fault.

Engineer Tip: Milk deposits become considerably harder to remove once they've dried. A quick clean after every milk drink prevents most heavy build-up.

Ninja Luxe Café machines use an integrated grinder as part of their Barista Assist system. Keeping the bean hopper and grinder area free from excessive coffee residue helps maintain consistent dosing.

Keep the bean hopper dry and avoid introducing water into the grinder. If changing beans, remove loose beans and grounds as appropriate rather than washing internal grinder components.

If the recommended grind setting changes, don't automatically assume something is wrong with the grinder. The Barista Assist system can adjust its recommendation according to previous extractions.

Engineer Tip: Very oily beans can leave considerably more residue through a grinder. If dosing becomes inconsistent, inspect the accessible coffee path before changing calibration or assuming the grinder has failed.

Remove spent coffee from the portafilter after brewing and rinse the basket so coffee isn't allowed to dry inside its holes.

Pay particular attention to fine grounds around the upper rim of the basket and portafilter. These areas need to remain clean so the portafilter can locate and seal correctly against the brewing system.

If espresso suddenly begins dispensing slowly, clean the basket thoroughly before changing the grind setting.

Engineer Tip: Diagnose flow problems without coffee in the basket where appropriate. Good water flow through an empty brewing system but poor flow through coffee points you towards the coffee preparation or basket rather than immediately towards the pump.

The drip tray isn't only there to catch accidental spills. Ninja coffee machines can discharge water into it during normal operation and cleaning cycles.

Empty it regularly and wash the removable tray components before residue builds up. Always refit the tray correctly before operating the machine.

If you find water underneath the machine, empty and dry the drip tray first. Then monitor the machine during another cycle to establish whether there is actually a leak.

Engineer Tip: Knowing when water appears is extremely useful. Water appearing while the machine is standing idle suggests something different from water appearing only during brewing or cleaning.
