Quick Tips

Quick Tips

  • Follow the recommended grind setting before changing other variables

The ES701UK uses Barista Assist Technology to recommend a grind setting for espresso. The recommendation can change as the machine learns from previous extractions and as your coffee beans change.

Set the physical grind dial to the number shown on the display before grinding. When using new beans, allow the machine a couple of espresso extractions to establish its recommendation.

Engineer Tip: Don't continually alter grind size during initial calibration. Give Barista Assist the opportunity to establish a baseline first.

  • Use the correct basket for the drink you're making

The ES701UK uses different filter baskets depending on the type and quantity of coffee being prepared, including Single, Double and Luxe baskets.

The machine recognises the installed basket and makes compatible drink options available. If a drink can't be selected, check the basket before treating it as a control-panel problem.

Make sure the basket is fully installed in the portafilter and clean around its upper edge before brewing.

  • Use the integrated tamper as intended

One of the major differences between the ES701UK Pro and ES601UK Premier is the integrated tamper.

After grinding, use the tamp lever to compress the coffee while the portafilter remains installed in the grinding cradle. Ninja recommends a firm tamp using the lever until it reaches its stopping point.

This produces a more repeatable coffee bed than manually estimating tamp pressure.

Engineer Tip: If extraction suddenly changes, check grind, dose and tamping before assuming there's a brewing-system problem.

  • Keep the Dual Froth System Pro clean

The ES701UK uses the XL Dual Froth System Pro for automatic milk preparation.

Wipe the steam wand immediately after frothing and allow the machine's purge procedure to clear the inside of the wand. Don't allow dried milk to accumulate around the outlet.

If milk is no longer frothing or heating as expected while coffee remains normal, clean and inspect the milk system before investigating the main heating circuit.

  • Keep the water filter and reservoir correctly installed

The ES701UK has a 2-litre removable water reservoir and supports a water filter.

When installing a new filter, prepare and fit it according to the machine's procedure and ensure the reservoir is correctly seated afterwards. If the machine suddenly struggles to move water after the tank or filter has been removed, go back to these components first.

Engineer Tip: A pump can be perfectly functional but unable to deliver properly if its water supply has been interrupted.

  • Don't confuse CLEAN with DESCALE

The two maintenance processes deal with different contamination.

CLEAN targets coffee oils and residue in the brewing system.

DESCALE removes mineral deposits from the internal water circuit.

Running one doesn't replace the other. If espresso flow has deteriorated, consider both the cleanliness of the coffee path and the condition of the water circuit before diagnosing an internal component.

  • Why does my Ninja Luxe Café Pro keep changing the recommended grind setting?

    This can be normal.

Barista Assist uses information from previous espresso extractions to refine its grind recommendation. Different beans, bean age and previous extraction results can therefore cause the recommendation to move.

When you change beans, match the grinder to the recommended setting and allow the machine a couple of espresso brews to adapt.

If the recommendation changes, move the physical grind dial to match the displayed number before the next grind.

  • Why won't my ES701UK let me select the drink I want?

Start by checking the basket fitted in the portafilter.

The ES701UK recognises its filter baskets and only makes compatible drink selections available. The Single, Double and Luxe baskets are intended for different preparations.

If some drinks disappear from the interface, an incorrectly selected or installed basket can therefore look like an electronic fault when the machine is actually behaving normally.

Remove the portafilter, check the basket, refit it correctly and make the drink selection again.

  • Why is my Ninja Luxe Café Pro espresso pouring too quickly or too slowly?

Extraction speed is heavily influenced by the resistance created by the ground coffee.

If espresso pours too quickly, the coffee may offer too little resistance. If it barely flows, the coffee path may be excessively restrictive.

Start with the Barista Assist grind recommendation, make sure the correct basket is installed, allow the machine to dose the coffee and use the integrated tamper consistently.

Also inspect and clean the basket if flow has gradually deteriorated. A partially blocked basket can mimic an excessively fine grind or even a water-delivery problem.

  • CLEAN

When the CLEAN indication appears, the brewing system requires its dedicated cleaning programme.

This removes coffee oils and residue that normal rinsing doesn't completely remove.

Don't substitute descaling solution for the brewing-system cleaning process — they're intended for different areas of the machine.

  • DESCALE

The DESCALE indication means the machine requires its internal water circuit to be descaled.

Scale develops as water is repeatedly heated. Ignoring the reminder can eventually contribute to restricted water flow, slower operation and inconsistent performance.

Run the complete ES701UK descale procedure rather than repeatedly flushing small quantities of solution through the machine.

  • PURGE / Steam-Wand Cleaning

The steam system needs to be purged after milk preparation.

Wipe the outside of the wand immediately after use and allow the machine to perform its purge procedure. If milk has dried around the steam outlet, clean it before another frothing cycle.

Poor steam delivery caused by milk contamination can easily be mistaken for a heating or steam-system failure.

  • Grind Recommendation

A displayed grind number is not an error code.

It's Barista Assist telling you where the physical grinder should currently be set.

The recommendation may change after subsequent espresso extractions.

  • Water / Reservoir Indications

If the machine requests water or appears unable to draw it, check the 2-litre reservoir, its water level and its installation.

If a water filter has recently been fitted or replaced, include that in your checks before assuming the pump has failed.

  • Using the Grinder & Barista Assist

The ES701UK has an integrated conical burr grinder and weight-based dosing system.

Select the required drink and basket. Barista Assist provides a recommended grind setting where applicable.

Turn the grinder adjustment dial until the physical setting matches the recommendation and start the grinding process.

The machine then weighs the coffee being dispensed rather than relying simply on a fixed grinding time.

This is important when troubleshooting inconsistent doses: grind recommendation and dose are related but they're not the same thing.

Barista Assist can subsequently adjust its grind recommendation according to extraction results.

  • Using the Integrated Tamper

The integrated tamper is a defining feature of the ES701UK Pro.

Once grinding has finished, leave the portafilter correctly located and operate the tamp lever. Bring the lever down firmly until it reaches its stopping point.

Return the lever to its starting position before removing the portafilter.

The aim is repeatability. Avoid manually tamping the coffee again after using the integrated system, as you're then changing the coffee-bed resistance the machine has prepared for.

  • Understanding the Single, Double & Luxe Baskets

The ES701UK uses multiple baskets to accommodate different drink preparations.

The machine recognises the basket fitted and adjusts the available selections accordingly.

This matters during troubleshooting because apparently missing drink choices don't necessarily indicate a software or control-panel fault.

If the wrong drinks are available:

Remove portafilter → check basket → reinstall correct basket → refit portafilter → select drink again.

Keep the basket holes clean. If water passes normally through the machine without coffee but extraction becomes extremely slow once coffee is installed, investigate the basket, grind and prepared coffee bed before condemning the pump.

  • Cleaning the Brewing System

After brewing, knock out the used coffee and rinse the portafilter and basket.

Don't allow coffee residue to build around the basket rim or portafilter sealing surfaces.

When the machine requests a deeper CLEAN cycle, use the dedicated brewing-system cleaning procedure and the specified cleaning components.

This process deals primarily with coffee contamination.

    A useful distinction is:

    Coffee oils/grounds → CLEAN

    Mineral deposits → DESCALE

Both can eventually affect flow, but for different reasons.

  • Descaling the ES701UK

When the machine requests descaling, use the dedicated programme for the ES701UK.

Empty the drip tray beforehand, prepare the reservoir as specified by the instructions and position suitable containers where the machine will discharge water.

Allow the programme to complete rather than interrupting it once started.

After descaling, complete the required fresh-water rinsing stages before preparing another drink.

Engineer Tip: If water flow has gradually deteriorated before the DESCALE indication appears, don't forget that the actual rate of scale formation depends heavily on the water being used.

  • Cleaning the XL Dual Froth System Pro

Milk residue needs attention after every milk session.

Once frothing has finished, remove the milk jug and wipe the steam wand with a clean damp cloth while residue is still easy to remove.

Allow the machine to complete the steam-wand purge.

Regularly clean the milk jug and its removable components. If frothing quality deteriorates, inspect the steam outlet and milk-contact components before altering settings or diagnosing a heater.

The ES701UK provides several automatic froth styles, so also make sure the selected programme matches the texture you're expecting.

  • Hot Water System

The ES701UK provides dedicated hot-water dispensing in addition to its coffee and steam functions.

This can also be useful diagnostically.

If hot water dispenses normally but espresso doesn't pass through the loaded portafilter, the machine clearly has some ability to heat and move water. That directs attention towards the coffee path, basket, grind, dose and prepared puck rather than immediately towards the pump or heater.

Conversely, poor water delivery across several functions points further back into the common water system.

  • Machine Specifications

The Ninja Luxe Café Pro ES701UK operates from a 220–240V supply and is rated at 1650W. It has a removable 2-litre water reservoir, integrated conical burr grinder, weight-based dosing, Barista Assist Technology and an integrated tamping system.

Coffee preparation uses Single, Double and Luxe filter baskets, allowing the machine to adapt grinding, dosing and drink availability to different preparations.

The Pro also incorporates the XL Dual Froth System Pro for automatic milk texturing, with multiple froth styles for different milk drinks.

Alongside hot espresso and coffee preparations, the system supports cold coffee options and dedicated hot-water dispensing, making the ES701UK's hydraulic system more extensive than that of a conventional espresso-only machine.
