Ninja coffee machine leaking

Start at the Ninja water reservoir. Remove it, inspect the tank and its seating area, then reinstall it fully. Water underneath or behind the machine can originate from the reservoir or its connection rather than from the internal brewing system.

Ninja machines intentionally discharge some water into the drip tray during normal operation and cleaning. Empty the tray and refit it correctly. An overfilled tray can make an otherwise normal machine appear to be leaking from underneath.

If water escapes around the portafilter during espresso brewing, remove it and check that the basket and sealing surfaces are clean. Excess coffee around the rim, an incorrectly fitted basket or an incorrectly installed portafilter can prevent the brewing area from sealing properly.

On Ninja Luxe Café machines, follow the machine's grind and dose guidance. Too much coffee or an obstructed basket can increase resistance during extraction. If leaking only occurs while espresso is brewing, inspect the coffee puck, basket and brew-head area rather than immediately assuming there is an internal water leak.

Liquid around the right-hand side of a Luxe Café may be associated with the milk/frothing area rather than the main water circuit. Clean the steam wand and milk components and watch the machine during a milk cycle to establish exactly where the liquid first appears.

Dry the machine, refill it and observe it through the stages of operation. If it leaks while standing idle, investigate the reservoir side first. If it leaks only during brewing, concentrate on the pressurised brewing circuit. If it appears during frothing or cleaning, investigate that particular system. This distinction is extremely useful when diagnosing Ninja machines.
